Girls Gone Wild Founder Guilty of Exploiting Minors

Posted by thelamp on October 4, 2006

Joe Francis, the producer of the infamous “Girls Gone Wild” videos pleaded guilty last week to violating federal child exploitation laws. He failed to create and maintain age and identity documents for performers in his sexually explicit films as required by federal law.Four years ago, Congress passed legislation to prevent the type of sexual exploitation promulgated by the degrading display of girls depicted in the “Girls Gone Wild” videos.

“Parents across America owe a debt of gratitude to Attorney General Alberto Gonzales for asking the FBI to regularly inspect records of the shameful producers who peddle such smut,” said CMC’s founder and president, Pastor Rod Parsley.

Francis will have to pay a fine of $500,000 and the two companies that made money at the expense of girls’ dignity were slapped with fines and restitution of $1.6 million. That might seem like a substantial fine, but considering the millions of dollars these ventures have generated, it really amounts to small change.

The Justice Department should have imposed severe penalties and used this high-profile case to set an example.
