NBC, Madonna Set To Mock The Crucifixion of Christ

Posted by thelamp on September 19, 2006

Following the lead of Rosie O’Donnell and ABC, NBC has decided to join in the bashing of Christians by airing a Madonna special in November. A specific date has not been released.

In the show, Madonna, wearing a fake crown of thorns, descends on a suspended mirrored, disco ball-type cross. When some Christian leaders complained about the mockery, NBC ignored their concerns.

Making mockery of the crucifixion of Christ has been a trademark of Madonna for many years. In 1989 she had a video for the hit song “Like A Prayer.” The video featured burning crosses, statues crying blood and Madonna–representing Jesus–freeing a saint from his sexual repression by seducing him. This is the same Madonna who once said, “Crucifixes are sexy because there’s a naked man on them.”

Kevin Reilly, an executive at NBC, said Madonna considered the scene mocking the crucifixion of Christ the highlight of her show. “We (NBC) viewed it and didn’t see it as being inappropriate.” Madonna considers mocking the crucifixion of Jesus the highlight of her show and NBC agrees.

  1. The Madonna is the Virgin Mary the mother of Jesus Christ. Given what happened to her son, Madonna is obviously traumatized. The Russian Orthodox Clergy already declared a Holy Inquisition against her for performing this show in Moscow. This does seem to narrow down your options. George Bush has declared a Crusade against Islam. Perhaps given that she has converted to Judaism you could declare a Holocaust against her. I’m sure that once you throw her into the gas chambers all of the real problems of the world like the melting Antarctic raising the ocean level by 300 feet and the Christian Muslim Jewish Hindu world nuclear world war 3 will all go away.

I saw Madonna’s Confessions Tour live in Fresno in June and the crucifixion act was not offensive at all, in fact, it was moving, and it was in my personal opinion, her call to the world to start paying attention to the damage that war is causing in the world today, AIDS and hunger affecting millions of people. There is nothing wrong with that??. It is just a show.

    To whom it may Concern:

This is very appauling. You guys bend over backwards to protect the rights of all other religions in hopes of not affending anyone. Why wouldn’t you do the same for christians? This is very disrepectful to our faith. I am aware that you believe her show will have high ratings and bring your network a lot of money and that is why you are not concerned with what we think, but know this…money is the root of all evil. Your selfish ways will be judged in your aftermath. Madonna should be ashamed of herself and may God bless her soul.
I hope NBC will reconsider airing this broadcast.

    God Bless.

I appreciate the information about Madonna’s artistic interpretation of the
Crucifixion of Christ, but view it as that and nothing more (but will
definetly watch the performance as I missed her spunk on the MTV Music
Awards this year). She is an excellent marketing person, and a brilliant
sales women who knows how to use her sexuality, religious and personal
experiences to sell her albums and music. As an artist, I know personally
that my creativity is drawn from good and bad life experiences. If she
chooses to descend on a disco-ball type cross it would be a tamer
interpretation than dressing as a Catholic priest and descending on a school
boy (things could be a lot worse in this day and age)!

Alana…It’s the love of money. Jesus even Himself said make friends with unrighteous mammon. Money itself is not evil, it’s just paper or metal. What you do with it and if that is your motivation is where the problem is. Just like guns. Guns don’t kill people, people kill people.

I simply cannot believe what NBC is planning to air. They are in the front line of “defending” other religions, namely Islam, yet they think it is “inappropriate” to air such a blasphemy. Such a behavior betrays their prejudice towards Christians.

Are you people insane? I seem to think so after reading these articles on Madonna on the cross. First, NONE of you have seen the show I assume. I HAVE and you do not understand the context to which this happend. ALL around Madonna on the state are giant video screens with images of children in Africa that are orphaned of AIDS. There is a clock ticking over 10 million. These are the figures of orphans in Africa from AIDS. By 2010 there will be 20 million. THE POINT IS IF ANY OF YOU CAN GET IT IS WHERE WOULD JESUS’S CONCERN BE???? WITH DYING ORPHAN CHILDREN OR SPENDING NOW 500 BILLION….YES SAY THAT AGAIN 500 BILLION ON A WAR THAT IS GOING TO DESTROY THIS COUNTRY IF IT IS NOT STOPPED.

WHY DO YOU WANT TO STOP OTHERS FROM HAVING OPEN MINDS AND EMPATHY THAT MIGHT TURN INTO ACTION ON THIS TRAGEDY IN AFRICA THAT IS OCCURING? I WILL NEVER UNDERSTAND THIS…THERE IS AN OFF BUTTON AND A CHANNEL CHANGER ON YOUR REMOTE. USE IT AND DONT FORCE OTHERS TO NOT ENJOY AN EVENING OF EXCELLENT ENTERTAINMENT.

YOU CHRISTIANS ARE NOT UNDER ATTACK AS YOU ALWAYS SEEM TO THINK.. OTHERS WHO DONT THINK LIKE YOU (AND THANK GOD THERE ARE PEOPLE WHO DONT THINK LIKE YOU AND LOTS OF THEM) WE ARE UNDER ATTACK FROM PEOPLE LIKE YOU TRYING TO FORCE YOUR IGNORANT IDEAS ON OTHERS. YOU ARE FREE TO PRAY AND BELIEVE AS YOU THINK ANYWHERE ANYTIME.

TO BAD YOU PEOPLE DONT KNOW JESUS AND WHAT HE ACTUALLY STOOD FOR. I KNOW HE WOULD BE ASHAMED

Expectedly, the AFA’s ‘call to arms’ video clip against Madonna excludes the beginning and end of the song, which, quite frankly, sends a very christian message to the audience; you all need to see the entire performance to understand and appreciate the context. The song actually closes with with a verse from Mathhew. I am sure you AFA members have not even viewed the song in its’ entirety. I cannot understand how how so many christians are supporting the death of our troops and innocent Iraqis, yet decide the most important thing to do with their time is do chastise Madonna. Why don’t you open up your eyes, take a look at the horrible world our “christian leader” George Bush is creating, and turn off your television the night of the NBC Madonna show!!

I have very little to say on Madonna’s show, as I have not seen it. But I have been reading everyone’s comments. I certainly hope you are right about the intentions. Although, sadly I suspect even the use of African children with AIDS is a publicity stunt… although it is my sincere hope that this is not so.

But reading these comments, I am very concerned, because I see a lot of anger, and hostility.

To start with, one has to admit the NBC can show this, if it wants. But the population is also allowed to tell NBC what it thinks. Programming is always for profit, any programming displeasing to the general population would be cut, if that is where the revenue is from.

Also, Jesus is not just a symbol. He paid the price for our sin. He is Lord of Heaven and Earth. Being God in His very essence. Once again, I did not see the show, but this explains why Christians are really sensitive, because He is EVERYTHING to us, not just some idea. (Keep in mind how secularized Christmas and Easter are. I even had a friend refer to her diet as practicing Lent).

Although true Christians are trying to follow Jesus, we still make mistakes (hence we need a savior). So cut some us some slack.

I wonder how much movement is really going to be made for African orphans by Madonna’s video… I think very little, but I know tons of people moved by the Bible. I for one, actually have worked in an African orphanage. Right now I am working on my chemistry degree so that I can work in third world development. Christ moved me, no pop-artist.

So I pray blessings upon you all… and pray the same for you as I pray for myself, that you might constantly know God more.

What I think everyone is not understanding here is that Madonna does have the right to express herself and yes you can turn off the TV or change the channel. But TV is getting is to the point where our children are receiving the wrong message about our world (which I believe to be given to us by God). Take a look around you and see the destruction around us. We are in the times of the book of Revelation. Read this book for yourselves. If you force one issue of anykind on us then why don’t we have the right to defend what we (Christians) believe. Gays have their rights etc. Our government was founded by Christians(like it or not). Christ died on that Cross for our Sins so that you and I can walk this earth today. Not Madonna or anyone else. If she wants to display this fact then she should put a figure of Christ on the cross as he was on it. It is a slap in the face to Chirstians everywhere for anyone else to be on the cross to me. Hence Mocking Christ. My final point is how we raise our Children, is how the world will be. You raise a Hitler type child then you get a Hitler type world. Our Children are our future and their children’s future. They will make up this governement etc. So turn off the TV if it is allowed on Air. Boycott NBC. We got the right to ask not for our Children to view Chirst this way.
    God Bless Everyone
    God Bless Our Nation
I Pray for all of us.
