Christians Must Pray for Peace in Jerusalem

Posted by thelamp on September 19, 2006

On Sunday, October 1, millions of Christians from more than 100 nations will unite in prayer for Israel in obedience to Psalms 122:6, which commands us to “pray for the peace of Jerusalem.”

The Day of Prayer for the Peace of Jerusalem takes place the first Sunday of every October. This is an extremely important spiritual effort, and CMC members are encouraged to call upon their church to join more than 100,000 churches worldwide in praying for the peace of Jerusalem.

Peace has eluded Israel for far too long, so long that violence, anguish and death have become common aspects of daily life. Last week, Israeli defense officials raised the nation’s state of alert due to warnings that Palestinian militants were planning to carry out attacks.

The defense establishment received no fewer than 16 warnings from northern West Bank and the Gaza Strip of possible kidnappings, suicide bombings and shooting from small-arms and high- trajectory weapons.

The current crises over Jerusalem has global ramifications and impact, and will only be fully resolved by God. Pastor Rod Parsley reminds CMC members that because of their spiritual heritage, all Christians have a responsibility to pray for the city over which Jesus wept, the city where He soon will return.
