The Economy’s Great – if You’re in the Abortion Business

Posted by thelamp on July 14, 2006

Planned Parenthood recently released its annual report, and the results are eye opening for anyone involved with the life issue. As the report makes clear, killing unborn babies is big business – it’s worth millions to Planned Parenthood.

According to its own report, Planned Parenthood took in $882 million for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2005, and made $63 million in profit. What a profitable “not-for-profit”! A copy of the report is available here.

An estimated $108 million – about 12 percent of its total income – comes from its abortion business. The report shows Planned Parenthood killed more than a quarter of a million babies through abortion during the period covered by the report. In 2004, Planned Parenthood was responsible for 19.8 percent of the abortions performed in the United States.

Despite its financial success, or perhaps because of it, Planned Parenthood continues to accept federal tax dollars for its programs – lots of it. Its current annual report shows that it received $272.7 million – that’s more than it’s ever received before. This despite total assets that reached nearly $800 million last year – almost half a billion of that in investments.

Clearly, Planned Parenthood doesn’t need your tax dollars to function. It’s doing quite well at its primary mission – killing unborn children. CMC urges Congress and state government to stop funding Planned Parenthood and other organizations that use our tax dollars to promote the horrors of abortion.
