New Israeli Government Still Forming

Posted by thelamp on July 14, 2006

Israel’s next government is expected to form over the next two to three weeks. At a time when Israel is facing unprecedented threats from its Islamic neighbors, the choice of government ministers is crucial to the future of the nation.

Late last week, reports indicated that current Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz would hold a different post in the new government led by Kadima’s Ehud Olmert. The new Defense Minister is likely to be Amer Peretz of the Labour party. It’s not known if the shift from the hard-line Mofaz to the more dovish Peretz signals a willingness on Israel’s part to cede settlements in the West Bank.

The Hamas-lead Palestinian government, meanwhile, shows no inclination to live in harmony with Israel. Last week Hamas expressed its approval of a suicide bombing in Tel Aviv that killed 10 people, including the bomber, and injured dozens more. The bombing was carried out by Islamic Jihad, a radical group that has no formal ties to Hamas. It was the deadliest attack in Israel in nearly two years.

The new Israeli government’s challenges will be formidable, and CMC prays for its success. At such a significant time for Israel, it’s critical that the United States’ friendship with and support for Israel remain strong.

Pastor Rod Parsley, founder and president of the Center for Moral Clarity, recently become part of the national leadership of an important new organization called Christians United for Israel, or CUFI. CUFI’s goal is to organize Christians with a love for Israel into a grassroots movement. Pastor Parsley invites all CMC members to become members of CUFI. Members receive:

  • Weekly updates on CUFI’s work and developments that impact Israel.
  • Periodic e-mail or fax alerts requesting that you contact your elected officials on issues critical to Israel’s security.
  • Invitations to CUFI’s Washington summit on July 18-19 and annual Night to Honor Israel celebrations in your region.

To join CUFI, click here and complete the online form at the bottom of the page. Joining is free – there are no membership dues. The only cost to you will be the time you choose to devote to staying informed, speaking out and being a watchman on the walls of Zion.

CMC is planning to participate in CUFI’s July 18-19 summit in Washington, and you’re invited! During the summit, participants will share with Congress the importance of supporting Israel’s security. Pastor Parsley will attend the summit, and hopes CMC members across the nation will make plans to attend.

For more information about this historic event, click here. If you’ve already registered for the summit, click here to provide your contact information to CMC. Be sure to include your name, mailing address, daytime telephone number and e-mail address. We’re looking forward to meeting you in Washington and serving God with you in service to His chosen people!
