Marriage Matters: House Vote Looms Next Month

Posted by thelamp on July 14, 2006

The battle for traditional marriage moves to the House of Representatives, where a vote has been promised to take place in July.
H.J.R. 88, sponsored by Rep. Marilyn Musgrave, R-Colo., will be voted on next month, according to House Majority Leader John Boehner, R-Ohio.
“It will be interesting to see whether the House responds to the will of the people on this issue,” said Pastor Rod Parsley, founder and president of the Center for Moral Clarity. “Thanks to the June 7 vote in the Senate, we know which members of that body stand with values voters on this issue and which member’s stands against us. We deserve the same information about our Members of Congress before the Nov. 7 elections.”

“As a pastor, I see the value of marriage every day,” said Pastor Parsley. “I know men who were headed for self-destruction, but who became productive members of society through the example of a godly wife. I’ve also seen women blossom with confidence because of the encouragement of a loving husband. Mostly, though, I see the value of marriage through children who are becoming all that God intended them to be because of two essential kinds of love – that of a mother and that of a father.”
“My experience with families in 30 years of ministry makes it all the more baffling to me why some people wish to destroy traditional marriage by sanctioning legal alternatives to it. Marriage between a man and a woman needs to be upheld as the ideal, not lumped among one or more alternatives in the name of political correctness. Passing the Marriage Protection Amendment will uphold traditional marriage, and the House vote in July is a crucial next step in that process.”
