Flush With Cash, Planned Parenthood Gets Political

Posted by thelamp on July 14, 2006

Planned Parenthood’s annual report clearly shows that killing unborn babies is big business. What does Planned Parenthood intend to do with its bulging bankroll? Clearly, at least part of their mission will be to try to persuade voters to elect “progressive” political candidates – that is, those who advocate abortion.

According to its own report, Planned Parenthood took in $882 million for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2005, and made $63 million in profit. What a profitable “not-for-profit!” A copy of the report is available here.

An estimated $108 million – about 12 percent of Planned Parenthood’s total income – comes from its abortion business. The report shows Planned Parenthood killed more than a quarter of a million babies through abortion during the period covered by the report. In 2004, Planned Parenthood was responsible for 19.8 percent of the abortions performed in the United States.

Despite its financial success, or perhaps because of it, Planned Parenthood continues to accept federal tax dollars for its programs – lots of it. Its current annual report shows that it received $272.7 million in federal funds – that’s more than it’s ever received before. This despite total assets that reached nearly $800 million last year – almost half a billion of that in investments.

Cecile Richards, Planned Parenthood’s president, recently said, “We’re going to channel our strength, our outreach, our power, and work with our pro-choice allies to help progressive voices across America.” She added, “We’re going to marry our current reality as the largest reproductive health-care provider in this country with our opportunity to be the largest (expletive) advocacy organization in this country.” Richards is the daughter of former Texas Gov. Ann Richards.

When you get past the irony of euphemisms like “reproductive health care,” it’s obvious that Planned Parenthood’s interest in political activity is its own survival. Most businesses in this country would love to be as profitable as Planned Parenthood – it just so happens they are in the business of death. Make no mistake, they’ll do anything and say anything, including demonizing defenders of life, to keep their cash-producing clinics open.

If they have the means to try to influence the political debate in this country, Planned Parenthood should do it without your tax dollars. Its annual report and its president’s recent statements show that it’s doing quite well at its primary mission – killing unborn children. CMC urges Congress and state governments to stop funding Planned Parenthood and other organizations that use our tax dollars to promote the horrors of abortion.

One Response to “Flush With Cash, Planned Parenthood Gets Political”

  1. Hi everyone! I just wanna say that politics is a favorite subject matter of all people—from youth to elders. When it comes to the topic of Politics, each individual is anxious to speak his mind and so are squabbles that are ready to explode. For all we know, Swiss politics has been silent in the global village; whereas U.S. and Asian politics are so alive. On the contrary, Swiss politics is also an extraordinary hotspot of debate and a favorite past time of each opinionated Swiss inhabitant.
